6 Fun Things to Do with Your Puppy in the New Year

You and your puppy did it! You made it through the year together without a scratch and are ready to welcome a new one. You may be wondering on how to make the upcoming year a bit more special and fun for you and your pup. Here are a couple of fun ways you can make the new year a bonding experience for you and your fur-baby.

  • Take more walks together

It’s no secret that puppies love walks, and will grow excited at the sight of a leash. Not only do walks help you get some exercise after all that holiday food, but it also provides a number of mental and physical health benefits for your puppy. By looking at the sky, people, and other surroundings, your pup’s boredom is significantly alleviated. Walking also gives your puppy some cardio exercise, which helps build their physical strength

  • Go on day trips in your car

Most puppies enjoy going on car rides for the same reason they enjoy going on walks. It’s a way to get out of the house and see the world, even if it’s just a quick trip to the local store. If you’re visiting family or friends, consider taking your pup with you. You can also take them with you to the local pet store, where your fur-baby can browse freely through the aisles.

  • Set up a puppy playdate

If your puppy is comfortable interacting with other people and puppies, a puppy playdate is a fun way to bond with your fur-baby for the new year. Dogs are a popular pet among people so it shouldn’t be hard to find a group of friends, co-workers, or relatives that own puppies. You can even make a few friends along the way! Make sure that your fur-baby has its vaccinations up-to-date.

  • Go on camping trips

We all need a way to escape the hustle and bustle of the passing year. Camping can provide just that for you and your puppy. Hiking on a trail is also a great way to bond with your pup as you both become in tune with nature. Make sure the area you’re planning to go camping at allows dogs. You should also learn how to administer basic first aid, in case of an emergency.

  • Play fetch more often

Puppies are a lot like children as they desire attention and play time from their loved ones. Playing fetch, whether with a ball or frisbee, is a great way to indulge them and promote bonding. It can take place inside your home (in a safe area!), in your backyard, or in a park. Apart from bonding, it’s also a good way to help your pup get their daily exercise.

There are many activities you can do with your puppy for the upcoming year. By starting off the new year with a fun and bonding event or activity, you and your puppy can strengthen the human-animal bond and have an amazing year together!
